Job Summary

The Staff Data Engineer will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining large-scale data systems that drive business value for Visa. This role requires a deep understanding of data engineering principles, architecture, and technologies, as well as strong collaboration and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering

Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and efficient data pipelines and architectures that meet business requirements.

• Develop and maintain data processing workflows, data models, and data quality metrics.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize data engineering projects.
• Ensure data systems are highly available, scalable, and meet performance requirements.

Data Architecture

Develop and maintain data architecture roadmaps, standards, and best practices.

• Design and implement data architecture patterns and standards.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to develop data strategies and roadmaps.
• Ensure data architecture aligns with business objectives and industry trends.

Collaboration and Communication

Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and develop data solutions.

• Work closely with data scientists, product managers, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements.
• Communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation and knowledge base.

Technical Leadership

Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers.

• Mentor and guide junior engineers in data engineering best practices.
• Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards.
• Develop and maintain technical skills and knowledge in data engineering.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, software development, or a related field.
• Strong programming skills in languages such as Java, Python, or Scala.
• Experience with data engineering technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, and NoSQL databases.
• Strong understanding of data architecture principles, data modeling, and data governance.
• Excellent collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to Have

Experience with cloud-based data engineering technologies such as AWS Glue, Azure Data Factory, or Google Cloud Dataflow.

• Experience with agile development methodologies and version control systems such as Git.
• Knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or D3.js.
• Certification in data engineering or a related field.
